It strives to be a food fair with the most number of Taiwanese food products & fresh produce available in Singapore to-date
Singapore, 8 July 2010 – In an attempt to let local consumers enjoy top-grade agricultural produce and processed foods from Taiwan, Sheng Siong Supermarket, the third-largest retailer here, is organising for the first time “Taiwan Food Fair 2010” at eight* of its stores, from today onwards to 14 July 2010.
This week-long dedicated food fair at eight* selected Sheng Siong stores will showcase a wide range of processed foods, fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season and various types of high quality rice from Taiwan. With over 300 types of products and produce in store, this would be the most comprehensive Taiwan Food Fair organised by a retailer in Singapore to-date. Fresh fruits and vegetables from Taiwan will also be available at the rest of the 15 stores.
“Taiwan Food Fair 2010” at Sheng Siong is supported by Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, Taiwan Trade Center (Singapore) and Taipei County Farmers' Association. It was officially launched this morning at Sheng Siong’s Bedok Central outlet (BLK 209 New Upper Changi Road #01-631 & #02-631 Singapore 460209) by Mr Jeremy Liang H. S., Deputy Representative of Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, Mr Danny Liao J. S., Chief Representative Officer of Taiwan Trade Center (Singapore), Mr Yang Dong Liarng, Manager of Taipei County Farmers’ Association, Mr Peter Cheng Y. C., President of Taiwanese exporter, Grand-Profit Enterprise Inc., and Mr Lim Hock Chee, Managing Director of Sheng Siong Supermarket Pte Ltd.
To ensure quality of the fresh fruits and vegetables at “Taiwan Food Fair 2010”, Sheng Siong had sent two senior personnel to a mission to Taiwan in June 2010, where they personally visited Taipei County Farmers’ Association, together with company representatives from Taiwanese exporter, Grand-Profit Enterprise Inc. Besides that, they travelled and made contact with many farmers’ associations from various villages, townships, towns, counties and cities, in order to understand firsthand the condition of the fruits and vegetables in season. After stringent checks and careful selection, 16 types of fruits and vegetables were ordered on the spot, to form part of the merchandise of “Taiwan Food Fair 2010” at Sheng Siong.
The 14 types of fruits and vegetables include Apple Mangoes, King Mangoes, bagged-grown Kyoho Grapes, Papayas, Jumbo Watermelons, Pineapples, Sweet Pears, Guavas, Muskmelons, Enoki Mushroom, White Buna Shimeji Mushroom, Brown Buna Shimeji Mushroom, King Oyster Mushroom and Water Bamboo Shoots. Sheng Siong also brought in the “President Pears”, a type of pears that bears the prestigious title in the political arena. These pears are carefully selected and each weighs about 600 grams.
One of the highlights of this fair is the introduction of fine-quality rice from Taiwan. For the first time, local consumers will be able to enjoy the goodness of Taiwan Peng Lai Rice. Big Bridge Sushi Rice/ Tai-keng No. 9 (300g pack), Royal Rice – Taiwan Milled Rice/ Taichung No. 192 (1kg pack) and Royal Rice – Specially Cultivated Rice/ Tainan No. 11 (1.5kg pack) are specially brought in by Sheng Siong and during this period, the eight* selected Sheng Siong stores will organise “Fine Quality Taiwanese Rice Tasting” events for shoppers. Sheng Siong customers will also be able to purchase these rice products from 15 other stores.
Mr Lim Hock Chee, Managing Director of Sheng Siong Supermarket Pte Ltd, said, “The objective of organising this fair is in line with our corporate mission, which is to provide customers with quality products at reasonable prices as well as excellent service. Taiwan is known for its in-depth and advanced research and development in agriculture and related food technologies. As our local consumers’ appetite for finer food products grow, their demand for Taiwanese top grade agricultural produce should increase, especially vegetables, fruits and rice. Therefore, we decide to put together many well-known top quality farm produce from Taiwan in our supermarket stores, so that local consumers will be able to see, taste, buy and enjoy them all at one go. Although this is our first time organising “Taiwan Food Fair”, the scale is quite significant and reflects the confidence in our customers’ response.”
Mr Jeremy Liang, Deputy Representative of Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, said, “Taipei Representative Office in Singapore, Taipei County Farmers' Association and Taiwanese firm, Grand-Profit Enterprise Inc. spare no effort in promoting Taiwan fruits, vegetables and other fresh produce exports to Singapore. Since 2009, we have been actively supporting various Taiwan Fruit Fairs and Taiwan Farm Produce & Food Specialty Fairs in Singapore. Our Representative Office gives our full support and assistance to the first “Taiwan Food Fair” organised Sheng Siong, and hopes that Singapore consumers will be able to enjoy Taiwan’s top grade farm produce and processed foods at more economical prices.”
